AEW’s media rights future remains a topic of discussion as Warner Bros. Discovery moves forward with its planned merger with Paramount Skydance.
While there has been speculation about what that could mean for AEW, sources within the company via Fightful Select say Tony Khan is optimistic about the possibility of AEW remaining connected to WBD under the new structure.
According to multiple AEW sources, Khan was excited about the prospect and indicated that Paramount would be a favorable landing spot for the company. The discussion is notable because Paramount has a long history with professional wrestling. The company previously worked with ECW in the 1990s, WWE during the 2000s, and TNA Wrestling throughout much of the 2000s and 2010s.
Questions have also been raised about Paramount’s existing relationship with UFC. However, a Paramount source indicated there is no exclusivity agreement that would prevent AEW from being added to the company’s programming lineup. That same source was quick to note that UFC works for Paramount, not the other way around.
Nothing has changed regarding AEW’s current deal with Warner Bros. Discovery, and there has been no official announcement concerning future television plans. Still, the latest information suggests that Tony Khan views Paramount as a positive option if the merger moves forward as expected.
With the media landscape continuing to evolve, AEW’s next television chapter remains one of the biggest stories to watch in professional wrestling.
