AEW Women’s World Champion Thekla is proving she’s just as versatile outside the ring as she is inside it.

During an appearance on The Close-Up with Renee Paquette, Thekla revealed that she can speak five different languages after spending years wrestling and living across multiple countries throughout her career. Thekla explained that German is her primary language because she grew up in Austria, but her travels around the world helped her pick up several more along the way. She then listed the rest of the languages she speaks fluently.

“So German is my main language. English. I lived in Spain, so Spanish is my third, and then Japanese.”

Thekla also revealed she learned Georgian because of her family background through her mother.

“My mom is from Georgia. It’s a little country next to Russia. They speak Georgian.”

The AEW star spent years competing internationally before arriving in the United States, including a major run in Japan that helped raise her profile before eventually joining AEW. Her ability to move between multiple countries and cultures has become a huge part of both her wrestling career and personality, especially now that she’s one of AEW’s top women’s stars.

Between speaking five languages and building her career across several continents, Thekla’s path to becoming AEW Women’s World Champion has definitely been very different from most wrestlers in the industry.
