Mercedes Moné unloaded a “five-foot dumb blonde bitch” line with Thekla standing right there on AEW Dynamite, but Thekla isn’t buying the idea that she was actually the target.
During an interview with TMZ’s Inside the Ring, Thekla brushed off the insult completely and said she never even took it personally because, as far as she’s concerned, Mercedes wasn’t really talking about her. The moment came after Mercedes captured the AEW Women’s World Championship at All In and Thekla emerged as one of the women looking to get in her way. When they crossed paths on Dynamite, Mercedes delivered a line that certainly sounded like it had Thekla’s name all over it. Mercedes told her:
“If you think a little five-foot dumb blonde bitch who didn’t grow up loving wrestling is gonna scare me, then you must not know who the hell I am.”
That sounds pretty damn direct, but Thekla sees it differently. When the line was brought up during her TMZ interview, she immediately rejected the premise that Mercedes was actually describing her.
“Well, first of all, first of all, I don’t think she was actually talking at me, and I think everybody knows that. So, I didn’t even—if you see me and I’m not even taking that personally, so you can think whatever you want.”
In other words, Thekla heard Mercedes call someone a five-foot dumb blonde bitch and basically said, “Couldn’t be me.”
The hosts then zeroed in on the “dumb” part of the insult, and Thekla had no problem admitting that she does some questionable things. She just made damn sure nobody confused that with her actually being stupid.
“Well, first I’m—I’m—I’m 100% a bitch. Okay, so that was not—that was not a question, but I’m—I’m—I’m a smart bitch. I do a lot of dumb things, though.”
Then Thekla found something she apparently did notice about Mercedes. She said “dumb bitch” is her catchphrase and claimed Moné had been tossing similar language around while Thekla was gone for four weeks.
“But that’s not, you know, I mean, that’s—it’s just my catchphrase, you know. Nobody else take that. She was saying that for like—like I’m gone for four weeks and she just kept on saying it to other people. It’s like, ‘Girl, what is happening?’”
Thekla also made it clear she thinks Mercedes can borrow the words, but she can’t steal the delivery.
“It doesn’t roll off your tongue as well. It has to come from dumb bitch. You know, only I say it that way.”
So Mercedes may have dropped one hell of an insult on Dynamite, but Thekla isn’t giving her the satisfaction of claiming it. She doesn’t believe the “five-foot dumb blonde bitch” shot was actually about her, didn’t take it personally, and seems far more amused that Mercedes apparently spent weeks playing around with language Thekla already considers her territory.
