Tay Melo may have just said goodbye to AEW without ever mentioning the company by name. The next day after Tony Khan confirmed he plans to grant her release, Melo posted a long metaphor about a dying tree, a temporary pot and finally being planted somewhere she was “meant to grow.”
The timing did not go unnoticed. Fans quickly connected the “pot” to AEW, with many believing Melo was saying the company helped protect her during one chapter of her career but was never supposed to be her permanent home.
Melo opened by explaining that she had always dreamed of owning a pink tree, but after it arrived in a pot and sat waiting to be planted, it began to die.
“I had always dreamed of having a pink tree, so we ordered one. It arrived at my house in a pot. Then we placed the pot near the irrigation system and waited for the guy to come plant it.”
“Days went by. He didn’t show up, and my tree started to die. One morning, I looked at it and it looked completely dead. I was so frustrated. I felt like I had wasted money, time and my dream.”
She said her husband convinced her not to give up on the tree, so they kept watering it and eventually saw small signs of life. Still, Melo said the tree was not actually thriving because it needed more than extra water.
“My husband said, ‘Why don’t we try to save it? Don’t throw it away. Let’s water it a little more.’ So every day, on top of the automatic irrigation, we used the hose and gave it extra water.”
“It did start to show signs of life, but it was not thriving. Then I realized something. It didn’t just need more water. It needed to be planted where it was meant to grow.”
That is where the message really started sounding like something much bigger than gardening. Melo said the tree began blooming only after it was removed from the pot and placed in the ground.
“So we planted it in the ground, and a few days later, this is my tree—beautiful, blooming like it’s meant to be.”
“The tree only looked like it was dying because it was living in a place it was never meant to stay.”
Melo then made sure to explain that the pot itself was not bad. Instead, she described it as something that protected the tree during its journey, even if it was never supposed to be the final destination.
“Don’t get me wrong. The pot wasn’t bad. In fact, the pot served a really important purpose. It protected the tree during the journey from the nursery to my home.”
“But the pot was never meant to be its permanent home. The ground was. Be grateful for the pot, but pay attention to the ground.”
The post came after Khan confirmed Melo recently asked to leave AEW and step away from wrestling. He said there was no bad blood, that their talks were respectful and that he intends to give her the release.
That makes the metaphor hard to ignore. The “pot” may represent AEW as an important stop that helped carry Melo through part of her career, while the “ground” could be whatever comes next. Whether that means another wrestling company, a return to WWE or a complete break from the business is still unknown.
Melo never named AEW, Tony Khan or any future destination, but the timing and wording have fans convinced this was her way of closing one chapter and teasing the start of another.
