WWE just threw another match onto tonight’s SmackDown, and the tag team division is about to get ugly. The company announced that MFT will collide with BAKUSAI on the September 18 episode, putting WWE Tag Team Champions Tama Tonga and Talla Tonga across the ring from Shinsuke Nakamura and Kyoki.
WWE dropped the match announcement just hours before SmackDown goes live from Corpus Christi, Texas. There’s no championship stipulation attached to the announcement, but BAKUSAI getting their hands on the champs gives Nakamura and Kyoki a huge chance to make some noise.
The timing couldn’t be better either. Tama and Talla have been sitting on top of the SmackDown tag division since capturing the WWE Tag Team Titles, while Nakamura and Kyoki have been building momentum since officially coming together as BAKUSAI.
The match also adds even more chaos to a SmackDown card that has been changing all afternoon. WWE already switched up the women’s Money in the Bank qualifier by putting Alexa Bliss into the match, while Randy Orton, Trick Williams and Rey Fenix were also announced for a massive men’s qualifier.
Here’s everything currently confirmed for the September 18 episode of WWE SmackDown:
- Undisputed WWE Champion Sami Zayn appears
- Cody Rhodes sits down with Michael Cole
- Men’s Money in the Bank Qualifier: Randy Orton vs. United States Champion Trick Williams vs. AAA Cruiserweight Champion Rey Fenix
- Women’s Money in the Bank Qualifier: Alexa Bliss vs. Jade Cargill vs. Jacy Jayne
- MFT vs. BAKUSAI
SmackDown is getting loaded up right before showtime, and MFT vs. BAKUSAI gives WWE one more fight with some real bad blood attached. Nakamura and Kyoki now have a chance to walk straight into the champions’ house and make the biggest statement possible without a title even being on the line.
