Steve Borden finally got on the microphone, and AEW fans got their first real taste of what Sting’s son sounds like with a live mic in his hand. During the AEW Collision episode on September 19, 2026, Borden stepped into the ring following Darby Allin’s TNT Championship defense against Myron Reed and delivered his first promo for the company.
Allin survived a brutal fight with Reed after the Rascalz member crashed spine-first onto a chair on the floor. Reed still managed to fire back with a 450 Splash, but Allin eventually put him away with a Coffin Drop to retain the TNT Championship.
After the match, Zachary Wentz came down to check on Reed while Steve Borden joined Allin inside the ring. Once the Rascalz cleared out, Allin grabbed a microphone and gave Reed his flowers before turning his attention to Borden.
Allin told Steve that teaming with his father Sting was one of the greatest moments of his life. He then made it clear that he wants to create another huge memory at All Out by teaming with Steve and earning a shot at the AEW World Tag Team Championship.
That opened the door for Borden to speak, and Steve didn’t waste his first AEW promo talking in circles. He acknowledged that he is still new to this world before explaining exactly what the opportunity means to him.
“I’m still new, and I know how much winning the tag titles meant to you.”
Borden then made it clear he isn’t looking at the partnership with Allin as some one-night novelty. If they can earn the number one contender spot at All Out, Steve wants to keep the team rolling straight toward championship gold.
“If we can pull it off, being a tag team again and you being a tag team partner of mine… after we get the number one spot, we’ll go take the tag team titles.”
It was a short promo, but it was a pretty significant moment for Borden. Steve has been getting introduced to AEW audiences alongside Allin, but this was the first time fans heard him actually lay out what he wants to accomplish instead of simply standing beside one of his father’s closest wrestling allies.
The Sting connection is impossible to miss either. Allin spent years tied closely to Sting during the final chapter of The Icon’s career, and now he is trying to build something completely different with Sting’s son instead of simply recreating what came before.
Steve Borden didn’t come out and promise he was going to become the next Sting, and he didn’t need to. His first AEW promo was about one thing: proving he belongs next to Darby Allin and chasing the tag team titles if they can survive All Out.
