Stephanie Vaquer’s scary post-match condition at WWE Money in the Bank was not part of a storyline, but the good news is that she may not be sidelined for long.
Vaquer lost the Women’s World Championship to Liv Morgan at Money in the Bank, and concern quickly grew after footage showed her struggling to walk once the match was over.
Now, Dave Meltzer has provided an update in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter confirming that the injury was legitimate.
“The Vaquer injury from the PPV match was legit, not storyline, but she’s not expected to be out for very long.”
That update should ease some of the concern surrounding Vaquer after she was seen limping heavily and needing referee Jessika Carr to help her make her way toward the back following the match. Vaquer even had to stop and sit down on the steel steps at one point before continuing backstage with assistance, making it clear she was dealing with something beyond normal post-match soreness.
There was also a moment earlier in the triple threat where Vaquer landed awkwardly after hitting a crossbody to the outside. She was able to keep going and finish the match, eventually losing the Women’s World Championship to Liv Morgan, but her condition after the bell immediately raised questions about whether she had suffered a real injury.
Meltzer’s update now answers the biggest question. Vaquer was legitimately hurt, but the expectation is that she will not be out of action for an extended period. That’s about as positive of an update as WWE fans could have hoped for after seeing how much trouble Vaquer was having just getting backstage. The injury was real, but for now it doesn’t sound like something that will derail her for a significant stretch of time.
