WrestleMania 42 is almost here—but behind the scenes, there’s already a strong idea of who WWE is leaning toward to walk out as champions.
With Roman Reigns set to challenge CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Title, Trick Williams going after Sami Zayn’s United States Title, and Penta defending the Intercontinental Championship in a ladder match, the stakes are already massive across the board. Now, a new report revealed what the expected outcomes could be.
While speaking on WrestleVotes Radio via Fightful Select on April 16, 2026, Joey Votes revealed that internal creative discussions are pointing toward Roman Reigns, Trick Williams, and Penta as the most likely winners in their respective championship matches at WrestleMania 42. He made it clear that plans can still shift—but as of now, those three names are the ones being talked about internally
“Potential spoiler warnings… if you want to avoid potential winners spoilers, skip ahead the next two minutes… we'll begin with according to a source with knowledge. Heading into the weekend, we're told that the current creative favorites to come out on top in their respective championship matches are Roman Reigns, Trick Williams and Penta. While decisions are said to remain fluid right up until showtime, those familiar with future plans indicate that as of today, those outcomes are considered the most likely.”
After laying out those names, the reasoning behind those choices was also discussed, particularly when it comes to Roman Reigns returning to the top of the card.
“I think all three of these make the most sense… I think the writing is on the wall that Roman Reigns should be the guy… I feel like he has gone long enough without being champion… two years at this point in time without being world champion.”
The Roman Reigns angle in particular stands out, with WWE potentially positioning him back at the center of the company after a lengthy stretch without a world title run. At the same time, Trick Williams continuing his rise with a United States Title win and Penta retaining in a high-stakes ladder match, which shows confidence in both stars heading out of WrestleMania weekend
Of course, nothing is locked in until the matches actually happen—but if these internal favorites hold, WrestleMania 42 could see some major title changes and momentum shifts across multiple divisions.
