Shawn Michaels told Drake Morreaux that AAA could be his big opportunity. Less than three months later, the WWE talent has officially arrived—and he didn’t come alone.
During the AAA Verano De Escándalo tapings, Morreaux made a surprise appearance wearing overalls and a mask before attacking Psycho Clown in the crowd, instantly introducing a completely new gimmick to the AAA audience.
The debut also solved one of AAA’s recent mysteries. For weeks, members of Los Psycho Circus have been targeted by an unknown attacker. The angle escalated on the June 27 episode of AAA when Pagano was found laid out backstage, with the message “Psycho, you are next” scrawled across a mirror. Morreaux’s attack on Psycho Clown now strongly suggests he was the masked figure behind those assaults all along.
The move comes just months after Michaels hinted that Morreaux’s future wasn’t going to be in NXT. During the May 3 episode of WWE LFG, Michaels told the powerhouse that while there wasn’t currently a place for him on NXT, WWE had another path waiting for him.
“There’s not a spot for you in NXT right now, but there’s a huge opportunity for you in AAA.”
At the time, it sounded like encouragement. Now it looks like the beginning of a plan. Morreaux has spent years training at WWE’s Performance Center and is one of the longest-tenured prospects to never receive a full-fledged NXT television run. Despite that, he has technically competed on WWE’s main roster, teaming with Javier Bernal in a losing effort against the Authors of Pain on the February 16, 2024 edition of SmackDown.
Now, instead of making his name in NXT, Morreaux appears to be getting a new start south of the border with an entirely new character—and judging by the way he introduced himself, he’s set to become a major problem for Psycho Clown.
