WWE isn’t wasting any time getting violent on the September 25 episode of Friday Night SmackDown. According to the early rundown for the show, the United States Championship Steel Cage Match between Trick Williams and Baron Corbin is set to kick off the night.
Viper Reports claim that Williams vs. Corbin is currently listed as the opening match for SmackDown, putting one of the biggest fights on the card right at the top of the show. Williams will defend the United States Championship against Corbin inside the cage after WWE made the stipulation official earlier this week.
That means fans tuning in at 8 PM ET won’t have to wait long for the steel to come into play. Williams and Corbin have already spent weeks going after each other, and WWE apparently wants that feud exploding as soon as SmackDown hits the air.
The rest of the card is loaded with Money in the Bank implications. Finn Balor, CM Punk and Gunther will battle for the final spot in the Men’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match, while Giulia, Charlotte Flair and Lash Legend will fight for the final opening on the women’s side.
Punk enters the qualifier after losing the Undisputed WWE Championship to Sami Zayn in Mexico City. A Money in the Bank win would give him a fast lane back into the title picture, but he’ll have to get through Balor and Gunther first.
WWE also added a six-woman tag team match featuring Fatal Influence against Tiffany Stratton, Chelsea Green and Paige. That gives the September 25 show another major women’s match on top of the Money in the Bank qualifier.

- WWE United States Championship Steel Cage Match: Trick Williams (c) vs. Baron Corbin — opening match
- Men’s Money in the Bank Qualifying Match: Finn Balor vs. CM Punk vs. Gunther
- Women’s Money in the Bank Qualifying Match: Giulia vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Lash Legend
- Six-Woman Tag Team Match: Fatal Influence (Jacy Jayne, Fallon Henley & Lainey Reid) vs. Tiffany Stratton, Chelsea Green & Paige
Opening SmackDown with a Steel Cage Match is one way to make sure nobody is easing into the night. If the early rundown holds, Trick Williams and Baron Corbin are getting the first shot at setting the tone — and they’ll be doing it with nowhere to run.
