The Hurt Syndicate is finally back after disappearing from AEW television for two months. And after all the rumors surrounding the group’s absence, Bobby Lashley, Shelton Benjamin and MVP didn’t exactly return quietly.
During AEW’s October 28 tapings for the October 31 Fright Night Collision, held in St. Louis, The Hurt Syndicate made their return to action. Lashley and Benjamin competed in a 2-on-3 handicap match against Griff Garrison and Soloroto, marking the faction’s first appearance since AEW All In on August 30.
That’s a pretty notable return considering how much talk there’s been about the group lately. The Hurt Syndicate had been completely absent from AEW programming for roughly two months, which naturally led to questions about what the hell was going on.
Things got even messier when reports started making the rounds claiming members of the group had pushed back against putting certain wrestlers over. Sean Ross Sapp recently claimed there had been situations where members of The Hurt Syndicate didn’t want to lose, although he didn’t identify who allegedly pushed back or which opponents were involved.
MVP absolutely wasn’t having that version of events. He jumped on Twitter and called the claims about The Hurt Syndicate “blatant lies,” while also suggesting he might know where the rumors were coming from.
“So I open up Twitter to see lies being reported about The Hurt Syndicate. BLATANT LIES!!! Who is the source of these lies?”
MVP then went even further by directly addressing the idea that the group didn’t want to put other wrestlers over. He claimed the exact opposite was true, saying The Hurt Syndicate specifically wanted to work with younger talent and even wanted to drop the AEW World Tag Team Championships back to Private Party.
“To the contrary, we wanted to work with younger talent! We wanted to drop the tag titles BACK to Private Party!!! STOP BELIEVING THE BS!”
He also responded to another account that brought up several rumors surrounding the faction, including claims that MVP was influencing Lashley and Benjamin to reject creative ideas and that he had heat with important people behind the scenes. Once again, MVP completely denied it.
“Rumor? Nah man. You are absolutely Wrong!!!! None of this is true. But now I know where this whisper campaign is coming from! 😉”
Whatever was happening behind the scenes, AEW has now put The Hurt Syndicate back in front of the crowd. After two months away and plenty of chatter about their future, Lashley, Benjamin and MVP are officially back in the mix.
