Sol Ruca’s road to WWE didn’t start like most wrestling stories. She wasn’t someone who grew up locked into every show, studying matches every week, or dreaming about a WWE contract from childhood.
During her appearance on the No Contest Wrestling Podcast, the current WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion was asked if it was true that she didn’t really get into wrestling until she was already on WWE’s radar. Ruca made it clear that was exactly the case.
“Yep. That is 100% true. I mean, I had very minimal information on WWE.”
Ruca explained that her first real exposure to WWE came through kids she used to babysit. They had action figures and wrestling rings, but she was more focused on making sure they did not hurt each other than learning the product.
“I babysat some kids that had all the action figures. They had the rings and they would, you know, try the moves on each other and they would try to teach me who all the people were. At the time, I was just trying to make sure that they were safe and not hurting each other.”
That changed when WWE reached out to her about a tryout. Ruca said that was when she finally started doing her homework and realized pro wrestling might actually be something she could do.
“But then once I got the DM asking for a tryout, that’s when I kind of did my deep dive and it was like, oh, like I didn’t know that this is something that I could do.”
Ruca said she knew the obvious major names, including John Cena and The Rock, but she did not know WWE could be a realistic path for someone with her athletic background.
“Like I had known of like obviously John Cena and The Rock, but I didn’t know that it was something accessible to someone like me. So once I got that opportunity, I was like, ‘Hell yeah, let’s do it.’”
That gamble clearly paid off. Ruca went from barely knowing WWE to becoming one of the most athletic stars on the roster, and now she is carrying the Women’s Intercontinental Championship while still proving she belongs every time she steps in the ring.
Sol Ruca’s path is wild because it shows WWE did not just find a wrestling fan. They found an athlete, gave her a shot, and now she is turning that chance into championship gold.
