Sheamus’ WWE situation already had people wondering where he could land next, but his agent just made the AEW part of the story a lot more awkward.
Fightful Select stated that AEW sources had no idea Sheamus was set to leave WWE, but at least one AEW talent is expected to push to work with him in AEW, CMLL, or other outside promotions. That makes sense on paper, especially because Sheamus and Claudio Castagnoli are still close and could easily be paired back together somewhere.
Then Sheamus’ agent, Nick LoPiccolo, jumped into the conversation and made one thing clear: if AEW wants to talk, they may have to fix a little problem first. LoPiccolo reacted to the idea of AEW talent pushing for Sheamus by asking a simple question.
“Do they need my number?”
John “TimeTravelin” Ehresmann replied by joking that LoPiccolo might be hard for AEW to find. That is when LoPiccolo fired back with the real line of the exchange.
“Yeah they would have to thinks how unblock me.”
That response is the hook here. AEW may have talent interested in working with Sheamus, but according to LoPiccolo, someone over there might need to unblock his number first before any real conversation can happen.
The line also hits harder because LoPiccolo and AEW have had a messy online past. He has taken public shots at Tony Khan and AEW before, including claims about AEW’s business future and past comments about alleged burner accounts. AEW has not publicly confirmed anything about blocking him, but LoPiccolo clearly had no problem leaning into the idea.
Sheamus is still said to be technically under WWE contract for now, even though his run with the company appears to be ending. WWE tried to keep him with a restructured deal, but he turned it down. One source claimed the offer was viewed as disrespectful after everything Sheamus gave the company.
That makes his next move even more interesting. Sheamus could work AEW, CMLL, independent dates, overseas shows, signings, conventions, or just take his time before jumping into anything full-time again. Still, if AEW is really in the mix, LoPiccolo’s message was pretty clear. Before anyone can pitch Sheamus on anything, they may need to hit the unblock button first. For now, Sheamus’ next step is still up in the air.
What do you think? Should AEW try to bring in Sheamus, or is this already too messy before talks even start? Let us know in the comments below.
