Seth Rollins is finally admitting what was really going on behind the scenes when he created The Vision after WrestleMania 41 — and according to Rollins himself, the entire thing was fueled partly by insecurity and paranoia about losing control of WWE’s future.

Ahead of his match against Bron Breakker at WWE Backlash, Rollins sat down with Michael Cole and got unusually honest about why he aligned with Paul Heyman, turned against CM Punk and Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 41, and started building what became one of WWE’s biggest factions of the past year.

Rollins admitted that once WrestleMania was over, he started looking around the locker room and realized he was surrounded by enemies — especially with Roman Reigns and The Bloodline still looming over everything. That fear, according to Rollins, pushed him toward creating The Vision.

“Maybe a little bit of insecurity? I looked at the landscape and I was kind of starting to pile up enemies; CM Punk, Roman Reigns, when you have Roman Reigns you have the entire Bloodline.”

Rollins then explained that he believed there were too many competing ideas for what WWE should become, and he didn’t trust anybody else to steer the company in the right direction. He specifically pointed to Punk and Reigns as two people he never believed should be leading WWE into the future.

“There was a lot of people who were sort of eyeballing what I was doing and what I was saying, they didn’t like it, so I felt like at that stage there were a lot of visions for what the future of the company could or would or should look like. To be honest with you, I just don’t trust Roman Reigns. I certainly don’t trust CM Punk, I don’t trust either of them to be the figureheads or the leaders, so I felt I was the best person suited for that job.”

Rollins also admitted the faction wasn’t just about power — it was about protection. He openly acknowledged that he wanted people around him because he felt exposed after taking shots at some of WWE’s biggest names.

“I felt like I was in a unique position where I had to take care of those guys, but I needed to insulate myself on the backside of that.”

At the same time, Rollins said he genuinely believed he was helping shape WWE’s next generation, which is why Bron Breakker became such a major part of the group early on.

“Also, I wanted to not just do this for me, but to pass it on to the next generation, and for me Bron Breakker was the perfect fit for that.”

But perhaps the biggest surprise from the interview came when Rollins admitted bringing Paul Heyman into the group may have been a complete mistake. After spending years battling against Heyman while he managed Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns, Rollins explained that he convinced himself the safest move was keeping Heyman close instead of allowing him to work against him again.

“The Paul Heyman aspect of it is a little bit more interesting. That was a mistake on my behalf.”

Rollins then broke down exactly why he made the decision to trust Heyman despite knowing his history.

“Paul’s been a thorn in my side for over a decade, when he was the advocate for Brock Lesnar, when he was the Wise Man for Roman Reigns, this is a guy who has always latched onto people that would give him power.”

According to Rollins, he thought he could manage Heyman better if they were on the same side — even if deep down he knew how dangerous that alliance could become.

“So to have him on my side, I felt like I could control it a little bit better, I could handle him if I had him on my side, and if our visions were aligned, it would be less for me to have to deal with.”

Now, with Rollins heading into Backlash against the same Bron Breakker who eventually betrayed him, the interview paints a much clearer picture of how unstable The Vision may have been from the very beginning.
