Seth Rollins has finally cleared up whether fans should expect to see him at Money in the Bank this weekend. The answer is a little complicated because while he’ll be in New Orleans, he says fans shouldn’t expect a surprise return.
Rollins has been away from WWE television since SummerSlam, although he’s remained active by working WWE’s South American and Mexico live event tour. Earlier today, Dave Meltzer also reported that Rollins is dealing with a minor injury, but that WWE is mainly holding him off TV so his eventual return can happen at the right moment.
Speaking on The Rich Eisen Show, Rollins confirmed he’ll be traveling to New Orleans for Money in the Bank weekend. However, he explained that he’ll only be there for a previously advertised appearance and to support his wife, Becky Lynch, as she challenges for the Women’s World Championship.
“I will be in New Orleans. As I’m flying down there tomorrow… I have a pre-advertised appearance there. So, I’ll be there to meet some of our fans and, you know, enjoy the festivities for a little while. And then I will be on hand to watch my wife, who’s competing in a triple threat match for the Women’s World Championship. Hopefully… she is able to bring home some gold. We need some world championship gold in the Rollins-Lynch household. It’s been too long.”
Rollins then made sure there wouldn’t be any false expectations. Even though he’ll be in the building, he stressed that he won’t be wrestling, interfering, or making an appearance during the show.
“But I will not be participating in any of the matches. I will not be involved in the show. You will not see me on the screen. If you tune in to the ESPN app to watch Money in the Bank, I will not be there.”
When asked where he’d be while Lynch was competing, Seth Rollins joked that he’d simply be watching the action from backstage: “I will be backstage sitting behind a monitor probably like this.”
Between Rollins’ own comments and the recent backstage reports, it sounds like WWE fans will have to wait a little longer for his television return. He’ll be at Money in the Bank, but unless plans suddenly change, it’ll be as a spectator rather than an on-screen participant.
