Scott Steiner has finally found a math problem even he can’t solve.
Michigan’s controversial finish against Western Michigan became instant fuel for the WWE Hall of Famer after replay officials restored one second to the clock following what appeared to be the final play of the game.
Michigan quarterback launched a Hail Mary into the end zone that was intercepted by Western Michigan as the television clock hit 0:00. However, Big Ten replay officials determined there was still one second remaining and put it back on the clock. That decision gave Michigan one more shot. The Wolverines threw another Hail Mary and this time came away with the game-winning touchdown.
Steiner, a Michigan native and the man responsible for one of wrestling’s most famous math promos, couldn’t resist getting involved. He took to X and gave the Big Ten its own dose of “Steiner Math” while questioning how officials arrived at the extra second.
“Everybody wants to know what happened with that last second in the Michigan game. Well, let me break it down for the Big Ten. You see, you got 60 seconds in a minute. And then you got 15 minutes in a quarter. You got one clock showing 0:00… Another clock still holding onto ONE SECOND… You take all of that, then you add the replay booth to the mix. And the Big Ten’s chances of explaining it so anybody understands drastically goes down! Everybody’s been making fun of Steiner Math for years. But when I tell you 141⅔%, at least you know what the number is. The Big Ten got clocks doing math that even I can’t explain. So next time there’s one second left in a Michigan game, forget trying to figure out which clock you’re supposed to be watching. CALL THE BIG BAD BOOTY DADDY. I’ll straighten the numbers out. Because the numbers don’t lie… AND STEINER MATH DON’T NEED A REPLAY REVIEW.”
Steiner managed to turn one of college football’s strangest endings into a perfect callback to the promo fans have been quoting for years. This time, though, even Big Poppa Pump admitted the numbers had gotten out of control.
Michigan walked away with the win, but that mysterious final second is going to be debated for a while. At least Steiner gave everybody a formula for dealing with it — stop asking the replay booth and call the Big Bad Booty Daddy instead.
