Santos Escobar is gone from WWE as the company’s roster cuts continue.
Escobar is believed to be among the names released as WWE talent exits remain ongoing. His departure comes after a difficult stretch dealing with multiple injuries that required surgery earlier this year.
In 2026, Escobar underwent two separate procedures. He first had surgery to repair his tricep, but complications followed. In April, he revealed he would need another operation, explaining that the second surgery was tied to what he described as a setback from the original procedure.
Escobar had also been featured as part of WWE’s expanded involvement with Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, continuing to represent the company in crossover appearances. His most recent match took place in March during the Rey de Reyes tournament final, where he suffered a pec injury that added to his medical issues.
Before joining WWE, Escobar competed under the name El Hijo del Fantasma and built a strong reputation internationally. After signing with WWE in 2019, he went on to lead Legado Del Fantasma and captured the NXT Cruiserweight Championship, marking one of the highlights of his run with the company.
His reported release adds another recognizable name to a wave of WWE roster moves that has already impacted multiple divisions across the company.
With Santos Escobar now believed to be gone, the question shifts to what comes next for the former champion once he recovers from his injuries.
Do you think WWE should have kept Santos Escobar, or could this release open the door for him to succeed somewhere else? Drop your thoughts in the comments.
