Sami Zayn isn’t backing down from Roman Reigns ahead of WWE Crown Jewel 2026, and the Undisputed WWE Champion has a few things to get off his chest — including some harsh words for the people who have doubted him throughout his career.

During an exclusive WWE interview with Cathy Kelley, Zayn addressed his November 7 Champion vs. Champion match against Reigns and made it clear that he’s heading into the showdown with more confidence than ever. While Reigns carries himself like he’s untouchable, Zayn believes the Tribal Chief has doubts of his own, whether he wants to admit it or not.

Zayn explained that no amount of success can completely eliminate self-doubt, and he doesn’t believe Reigns is any different just because of everything he’s accomplished in WWE.

“I know there’s that self-doubt because he’s human. He’s human. I don’t care if you’re the Tribal Chief. I don’t care how much success you’ve had. You’re still a human being. You cannot tell me that you’re going into the ring with a WWE Champion and there’s zero self-doubt. I know there’s self-doubt there.”

And while Zayn admitted that he deals with those same feelings himself, he insisted that his confidence has reached another level heading into Crown Jewel.

“He can play it however he wants. I don’t care. I know there’s self-doubt. I am telling you there’s self-doubt, but there’s also a crazy amount of confidence. And I’m operating at a higher level now than I ever have been. So yes, absolutely, I think I can beat him.”

Zayn also took issue with the way Reigns presents himself, suggesting that his intimidating attitude is something he deliberately uses to maintain control. According to Zayn, there’s a difference between actually believing in yourself and constantly needing to remind everyone how dominant you are.

“I think he tries to carry himself a certain way. I think he tries to project a certain dominance, which has worked very well for himself.”

But Sami wasn’t finished. He pointed to all the people who questioned whether he would even make it to Crown Jewel as WWE Champion, reminding them that he’s still standing while plenty of others have failed to stop him.

“I’m in the same position and I have that confidence. I have a crazy amount of self-confidence and all these people trying to step up to me. I tell them right in their face, all these people that have come and talked this big game about how I might not even make it to Crown Jewel. Who’s standing here right now going into Crown Jewel? I will chew these people up. I will spit them out because that’s what I’ve done for 20 years.”

Zayn then went even further, arguing that nobody in wrestling history has accomplished more with fewer advantages than he has. He credited his ability to overcome setbacks and criticism for getting him to this point in his career.

“The darkness that I have faced, any other man would’ve succumbed to it. Part of the reason why I am one of one is because anyone else would’ve succumbed to it. I chewed it up, spit it out, and I walked out with this on the other side. No one, no one in the history of this business has done more with less than I have. No one. And it’s not even close, okay? It’s not even close.”

Things then took a turn when Zayn addressed WWE fans who have turned against him over the years. He admitted that he expected people to understand what he brought to the table without constantly having to brag about himself, but he’s starting to believe that approach hasn’t worked. According to Zayn, some fans would rather be told someone is the greatest than recognize it for themselves.

“Maybe that’s what people respond to because the way some of these fans have turned their backs on me over the years, because I thought they would get it, but they don’t. They need to be spoonfed and told, ‘I’m the greatest.’ And then they go, ‘Oh yeah, I guess he’s the greatest.'”

Despite his frustration, Zayn said he’s not interested in completely changing who he is. He’s always been someone who wears his emotions openly, unlike Reigns, who prefers keeping his thoughts to himself while projecting an image of absolute confidence. Still, Sami admitted that maybe it’s time to start carrying himself a little differently.

“I don’t do that. It’s just not in my nature. I’m heart on my sleeve, but at the end of the day, I know how good I am. So yeah, I’m carrying myself with a different level of confidence now. Roman can say he’s 100% sure.”

Zayn has spent years fighting to prove he belongs at the top of WWE, and now he’s heading into Crown Jewel with the company’s biggest championship around his waist. Whether that confidence is enough to overcome Roman Reigns remains to be seen, but Sami clearly isn’t interested in playing the underdog anymore.
