Sami Zayn’s Undisputed WWE Championship reign may not be getting cut short by Brock Lesnar after all.

After Sami won the title at Night of Champions, fans immediately started wondering how long WWE would actually let the moment breathe. That concern only got louder once it was rumored he’d drop the title to Lesnar before SummerSlam, because nothing makes a new champion look more vulnerable than The Beast suddenly circling the title scene. Now there’s a little relief for Sami fans.

According to Fightful Select, there had been some pessimism about Sami potentially losing the Undisputed WWE Championship to Brock Lesnar before SummerSlam, but that does not appear to be WWE’s current plan.

That is a big deal for Sami’s reign. WWE just gave him the biggest win of his career at Night of Champions, where he defeated Cody Rhodes and GUNTHER in a Triple Threat Match to become Undisputed WWE Champion. Pulling the title off him almost immediately would have made the whole moment feel like a quick detour instead of the payoff fans waited years to see.

The backstage reaction also showed why WWE may want to let this run play out. WrestleVotes previously said Sami is loved throughout the company, from the locker room to the people working behind the scenes every week.

“Sami Zayn is universally loved inside that company. I don’t think he has an enemy anywhere. People have been waiting for this, so I know the backstage reaction has been great.”

Sami made the moment even bigger after the match when he fired back at everyone who doubted he would ever reach the top of WWE.

“You’re DAMN RIGHT I deserve it! Twenty-plus years in the game at the highest level — never got the recognition. Ten-plus years chasing this title — never got the recognition.”

For now, it sounds like Sami is not just being used as a short-term champion for Brock Lesnar to crush on the way to SummerSlam. Plans can always change in WWE, but the current word is that a quick Lesnar title win is not expected. That gives Sami’s reign room to actually become something instead of ending before it gets started.

Do you think WWE should keep the Undisputed WWE Championship on Sami Zayn through SummerSlam, or would Brock Lesnar as champion be the bigger move? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
