Ryback is stepping in to defend CM Punk after many people accused the Second City Saint of steroid abuse, following his recent bulked-up physique.

Punk got a lot of attention after a fan’s workout video showed him in the background looking more muscular during his time away from WWE television. That naturally led to speculation online, but Ryback took to Instagram and made it clear he doesn’t think people should jump straight to steroid accusations.

“There’s been a lot of talk lately about CM Punk’s improved physique and the usual speculation that comes with it. Is he on steroids? TRT? HRT? The reality is nobody knows except him and the medical professionals involved, if any.”

Ryback said there are plenty of normal reasons Punk could look stronger, including heavier training, better food, recovery, sleep, lower stress, and more consistency. He also said that even if TRT or HRT were involved, that does not automatically mean steroid abuse.

“When I look at Punk’s physique, I don’t see something that screams steroid abuse. I see a stronger, healthier version of his previous self. “\Could TRT or HRT be involved? Sure, it’s possible. But if someone has medically low testosterone or hormone levels, restoring them to healthy levels is about health and quality of life.”

Ryback also said his own experience under WWE’s Wellness Program gives him some perspective, and he personally doesn’t believe Punk is abusing steroids: “Having been under the WWE Wellness Program myself, I understand the rules and requirements. Personally, I don’t believe CM Punk is abusing steroids.”

He then called out the body shaming that happens in wrestling, saying people complain no matter what performers look like. Ryback said he’s happy to see Punk looking healthy and strong, while also taking a small shot at the old “steroid guy” label used against him.

“What I find interesting is how much body shaming exists in pro wrestling. People complain about Mason Rook because of how he looks. People complain about CM Punk because he improved his physique. Personally, I’m happy to see him looking healthy and strong. And maybe now he understands why the term ‘steroid guy’ was never the right label for someone like me.”

Punk hasn’t responded to the speculation, but Ryback clearly thinks the criticism has gone too far. As far as he’s concerned, Punk looks healthier, not suspicious — and people should stop acting like every improved physique automatically means something shady.
