RUSH thinks he knows exactly when his AEW momentum started falling apart. El Toro Blanco says everything was going well until AEW’s outside alliances entered the picture, and that’s when he believes the brakes were put on his push.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, RUSH was asked what happened after initially receiving some pretty big opportunities in AEW. He doesn’t think his performances were the problem, pointing out that he went to war with some of the company’s biggest names whenever he actually got the chance.
“The boss Tony knows my quality. There’s a reason he signed me for a long time. All of you know my quality, and honestly, with the few opportunities that I’ve been given with those superstars from AEW, there have been some f****** wars, right?”
As far as RUSH is concerned, his AEW run was moving along just fine at that point. Then the company’s partnerships and alliances started entering the equation, and he believes things changed for him.
“But everything was going well. Everything was going well, huh? But then suddenly, you know, the associations arrived, the alliances. Alliances. Well, the alliances arrived and everything, right? Exactly. They didn’t favor me.”
RUSH didn’t name any particular promotion, so he stopped short of blaming a specific AEW partner for what happened. He also isn’t pretending he doesn’t understand the business side of those relationships.
“And I’m not complaining. I’m not complaining, honestly. I’m not complaining at all because I understand this is business. This is business, and between bosses, if there’s an alliance, then it has to be respected, right?”
Still, understanding it doesn’t mean RUSH hasn’t noticed what happened to his own career. He believes the timing speaks for itself.
“But ever since those alliances arrived, well, that’s when they really put the brakes on me, and you all know it.”
RUSH thinks fans have noticed too. He pointed to people wondering why he hasn’t been able to completely take off in AEW despite showing what he can do whenever he’s put in there with the company’s top stars.
“I mean, it’s something that I don’t need to tell you. You saw it yourselves, and that’s why you ask yourselves, ‘El Toro Blanco RUSH… why can’t he take off?’”
That doesn’t mean RUSH is demanding more from Tony Khan. He recently admitted that missing All In: London made him sad, but also made it clear that he remains grateful to Khan and would rather spend time with his family than be thrown onto television without something worthwhile to do. For now, RUSH is sticking with the same approach. If AEW only gives him a handful of opportunities, he plans on making every one count.
“You know my quality. The work speaks for itself, and every opportunity they give me, I’m going to take maximum advantage of it, honestly. If there are only a few, it doesn’t matter.”
RUSH never said which AEW alliance he was pointing at, and that’s probably going to be the biggest question coming out of all this. AEW has had plenty of outside partners during his run, so fans can decide for themselves which one might have changed things for El Toro Blanco
