Rusev doesn’t believe his recent injury killed any of the momentum he had before disappearing from WWE television. As far as he’s concerned, he can come right back, pick up where he left off and continue chasing the championship he’s had his eyes on for more than a year.

Speaking on TMZ’s Inside the Ring, Rusev was asked whether he felt the injury came at a particularly bad time considering he had been actively pursuing the Intercontinental Championship before being taken off television. Rusev isn’t looking at it that way. He pointed out that injuries are simply part of professional wrestling, especially with the physical style he works, and his current setback is hardly the first major one he’s dealt with during his career.

“I don’t think I can get upset by that. Life is life. It’s a high-impact sport, especially if you do it the right way — things happen. I’ve broken my neck before, tore my knee, shoulder surgery. I don’t think it slowed down my momentum at all.”

More importantly, Rusev doesn’t believe spending months away means he has to rebuild everything from scratch. He’s confident enough in what he can do that he expects to simply slot himself back into the mix once WWE puts him on television again.

“When you’re good, you’re good. You come back and plug yourself right back in and kick ass and take names. It didn’t slow my momentum at all.”

And apparently his Intercontinental Championship pursuit isn’t finished either. Rusev revealed that he’s actually been chasing the title for more than a year and still expects to eventually bring it home. He even joked that the only question is whether he manages to win it before or after welcoming his son, Bear.

“I’ve been following the Intercontinental Title for over a year now, and I believe when the time is right, I will bring it back home — whether it’s before my son Bear or after Bear.”

That gives Rusev a pretty obvious target whenever WWE finally brings him back to RAW. He may not know exactly what creative has waiting for him yet, but he certainly knows what championship he wants when he gets there.

Would you like to see Rusev immediately resume his pursuit of the Intercontinental Championship when he returns to RAW? Let us know what you think in the comments.
