Ronda Rousey is not ready to confirm her next move with MVP MMA, but she already knows what she does not want to see from the promotion.
Speaking with The Fight Culture, Rousey was asked whether she could return for another MVP MMA event following her showdown with Gina Carano. The interviewer also floated the possibility of Nate Diaz being involved with the next card. Rousey said the people behind the event still need time to recover, regroup and determine what comes next.
“We’ll see. We need to kind of reconvene and see what the future looks like at this point. I think everyone is just kind of decompressing and getting back to post-that-huge-event fight life.”
Whether she returns or not, Rousey made it clear that she wants MVP MMA to keep treating each show like a major attraction. She argued that too many MMA events now come and go without feeling important because fans are given another card almost every weekend.
“What I hope they do in the future, whether with me or not, is that they continue to make their fights a huge event—every single one a huge event—because that’s what’s missing in MMA.”
Rousey did not hold back while describing the current state of the sport. In her view, the nonstop schedule has caused MMA events to become something fans casually leave on instead of something they build their night around.
“It’s just becoming every-weekend background noise, and it needs to be an event.”
Rousey also believes Nate Diaz should remain involved if MVP MMA wants its next event to reach the same level. She called Diaz someone who should become a regular part of the promotion instead of appearing for only one major show.
“Anything that they do next, whether I’m involved or not, I hope that it’s something huge. For something to be huge of that caliber again, I think Nate also needs to be involved again. I think he needs to be a mainstay.”
Rousey’s own future remains up in the air, but her message to MVP MMA was clear: do not flood the schedule with forgettable cards. Build fewer shows, make them feel important and give fans a reason to stop everything else when the fights begin.
