Steven Borden’s scary injury at AEW All Out has led to a lot of opinions over the past couple of days, but Ricochet isn’t interested in pointing fingers. After Disco Inferno blamed the whole thing on Borden’s inexperience, Ricochet jumped in with a very different perspective.
Disco kicked off the debate by arguing that Borden’s collision with Kevin Knight came down to poor risk assessment and a lack of experience. That led one fan to suggest WWE probably avoids situations like this because dangerous spots are rehearsed far more than they are in AEW. Ricochet took to Twitter and quickly shut that idea down.
“No, we tried it once and that was basically it. But it doesn’t matter if we practiced it once or 100 times. People have been hurt in wrestling doing high risk and low risk moves. It unfortunately is an aspect we face every time we step into the ring.”
For Ricochet, this wasn’t about experience or preparation. It was just one of those unfortunate things that can happen in wrestling and made it very clear no one is at fault for this.
“No one is at fault here. Its just an unfortunate situation. So lets just hope that Steven continues to get better.”
Disco clearly sees it differently. After All Out, he argued that Borden’s injury was exactly what happens when a wrestler doesn’t have enough experience to properly judge the risks they’re taking.
“This is what happens when the level of experience and bad risk assessment can cause serious injury.”
Thankfully, the situation wasn’t as bad as it first looked. Borden’s AEW pay-per-view debut was stopped immediately after the collision, but Tony Khan later confirmed his medical tests came back clear and said he hoped Sting’s son would be able to head home the next day. Whether fans side with Disco or Ricochet, one thing everyone seems to agree on is that they’re relieved Borden avoided a much more serious outcome.
