Ricky Morton has spent decades connecting with wrestling fans, but now somebody has apparently hijacked one of his biggest ways of doing exactly that. The WWE Hall of Famer says his Instagram account was hacked, and things got even uglier when someone allegedly demanded cryptocurrency to give it back.

Morton took to Facebook to warn fans that he no longer has control of his Instagram account, @Thebabyface_ricky_morton. According to the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express legend, he was stunned by how the account was compromised without him receiving any warning through his two-factor authentication.

“I honestly can’t believe this has happened. My Instagram account, @Thebabyface_ricky_morton, was hacked, and now I’m fighting to get it back.

What makes this even more frustrating is that I received ZERO emails from Instagram regarding my two-factor authentication. No warning, no notification that would have helped me protect my account, and absolutely no meaningful support from Meta.”

Then things apparently took a much nastier turn. Morton said he received an email from someone claiming they would return his Instagram account if he paid $350 in cryptocurrency.

“The email I just received is supposedly the hacker that will [give] me my Instagram back if I pay $350 in cryptocurrency as part of the process to recover my Instagram account, but this entire situation has been incredibly frustrating.”

Morton made it clear that losing access isn’t just about losing an Instagram page. He’s spent years using the account to interact with wrestling fans, share memories and promote appearances and events.

“After years of building a platform, connecting with fans, sharing memories, promoting wrestling events, and communicating with people all over the world, it’s heartbreaking to have something like this happen and feel like there’s nobody to turn to for help.”

The WWE Hall of Famer is now publicly asking Instagram and Meta to step in and help him recover the account. He also asked anyone with a legitimate contact at either company to help get his situation in front of the right people. More importantly, Morton issued a warning to anyone who follows the compromised account. Until he gets it back, fans shouldn’t trust suspicious messages, links or requests for money coming from it.

“To everyone who has reached out, thank you for your support. If you see anything suspicious coming from my hacked account, please do not click any links or send money.

I’ve spent decades building relationships with wrestling fans, and I’m not going to let this situation stop me from connecting with all of you.

Instagram and Meta, PLEASE help me get my account back!”

For now, Morton is still fighting to regain control of the page, while whoever allegedly took it over appears to be trying to turn the situation into a payday. At least Morton got the warning out quickly, so fans now know not to trust anything sketchy coming from his Instagram until he says otherwise.
