Richard Holliday’s WWE future still hasn’t been officially announced, but people inside the company believe it’s only a matter of time.
According to PWInsider, people inside WWE believe Holliday is headed to NXT, adding to the growing belief that he’s WWE-bound. We had previously reported there was already a belief backstage that Holliday was on his way to the company, and PWInsider is now hearing much of the same.
Then came the part that really stands out. According to the report, WWE was actually planning to reveal Holliday as part of the WWE ID program during WrestleMania 42 weekend in Las Vegas. For whatever reason, it never happened. The announcement was scrapped, and Holliday was never introduced. Suddenly, what happened at GCW doesn’t look so random anymore.
After losing to Bear Bronson at GCW Melee, Holliday didn’t just head to the back. He stayed in the ring, looked around the building, untied his boots, carefully placed them in the middle of the canvas, bowed to the crowd and walked away without saying a word.
That’s the kind of moment that gets people talking. Leaving your boots in the ring has always meant one thing in wrestling: a chapter is over. Holliday never said he was retiring, which only sent fans into overdrive trying to figure out what was next.
Now there’s a little more reason to believe those theories. Nobody is saying the deal is officially done yet. But when multiple outlets are hearing Holliday is WWE-bound, WWE had plans to unveil him months ago, and he’s ending his GCW run with one of wrestling’s oldest symbolic gestures, it’s getting harder to believe all of that is just a coincidence.
Whether it’s next week or later this year, don’t be surprised if Richard Holliday’s next stop ends up being an NXT ring.
