Richard Holliday’s rumored move to WWE suddenly looks a lot less believable, because the latest word suggests there may not be anything solid behind it.
Dave Meltzer addressed the situation in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter and said he was told Holliday’s name should be treated as rumor rather than a signing that is close to being completed.
“Regarding rumors of people coming in, nothing is confirmed on Richard Holliday, and I was told to consider that it’s just rumors.”
That is a major step back from the earlier belief that WWE had interest in Holliday and that he could be signed soon, assuming a deal had not already been completed.
Fightful Select previously stated that Holliday was on WWE’s radar as the company prepared to bring in additional wrestlers and a referee. That placed him alongside Hiromu Takahashi as one of the most notable names connected to WWE’s next group of incoming talent.
Holliday has had multiple WWE tryouts over the years, so his name being linked to the company was not hard to believe. He also has the polished presentation, promo ability and character work that would seem to fit WWE’s system. None of that means a contract is waiting for him.
The latest information makes it sound like Holliday’s WWE arrival is unlikely right now, especially with no deal confirmed and sources pushing back on the idea that anything is close.
Holliday was also considered for the Mr. Elegance role in TNA at one point, but that opportunity never came together. His name continues to surface around major promotions, although that interest has not produced a confirmed landing spot.
WWE could always revisit Holliday later, but fans should not expect him to appear in NXT anytime soon based on the latest information. The signing talk may have gained traction quickly, but it now appears to be little more than speculation.
