Ric Flair believes WWE didn’t just change wrestling — it changed the way major sports present their biggest events.
While speaking with Yahoo Sports Daily, Ric Flair was asked whether WrestleMania still holds the same magic it did years ago. Instead of saying the event slowed down over time, Flair made it clear that he thinks WrestleMania is still at the top of the sports entertainment world.
Flair explained that the spectacle surrounding WrestleMania never faded. In fact, he pointed to the way other sports leagues began adopting similar presentation styles as proof that WWE helped set the standard. Flair described how the pageantry of entrances, fireworks, and large-scale production became a model that other sports followed over time.
“I think it's the greatest sports spectacular of all.”
Flair then expanded on that thought by explaining how WWE’s production style didn’t stay limited to wrestling. According to him, major professional leagues started borrowing elements that made WWE events feel larger than life.
“I mean, everybody — the NBA, the NFL — they've all taken, you know, a page out of Vince's book in making their shows more spectacular whether it be with pyro or entrances or, you know what I mean?”
Flair continued by praising WWE’s overall presentation, saying that the company’s ability to deliver high-end visuals and production has remained one of its strongest advantages even as the industry evolved.
“It's just a fabulous show and the production values are second to none.”
WrestleMania has grown into one of the biggest annual events in entertainment, drawing fans from around the world and delivering elaborate entrances, stadium-sized stages, and massive production elements. Flair’s comments reflect the belief shared by many longtime performers that WWE helped push sports presentation into a new era, where spectacle became just as important as competition.
With WrestleMania 42 set to take over Las Vegas, Flair’s remarks serve as a reminder of how the event became more than just a wrestling show. It evolved into a global spectacle that helped shape how major sporting events look and feel today.
