Rhino is coming home, and AEW plans to put him back in front of the Detroit crowd this week.
PWInsider states that the former WWE, ECW and TNA star is scheduled to appear during AEW’s two-night run at the Mason Temple Theater. Dynamite airs live on Wednesday, July 29, before a special live Thursday edition of Collision on July 30. It has not been revealed which show Rhino will appear on or what AEW has planned for him.
This will not be Rhino’s first time stepping inside an AEW ring. He appeared when the company visited Detroit last year, losing to Nick Wayne on Dynamite before also working matches taped for Ring of Honor.
Rhino has remained active outside AEW and recently became part of the television launch for Scott D’Amore’s Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling Mayhem series. The show airs on TSN in Canada and through MyAEW in other markets.
The debut episode featured Rhino defeating Gama Singh Jr., keeping the veteran active as he prepares for another appearance in front of his hometown fans. Rhino has also been taking part in local media appearances to promote AEW’s Detroit events, making his involvement more than a random last-minute booking.
Wednesday’s post-Redemption edition of Dynamite already has several major matches and segments announced. AEW Trios Champions Orange Cassidy, Kyle O’Reilly and Roderick Strong will defend against Ricochet, Toa Liona and Bishop Kaun. New AEW Women’s World Champion Willow Nightingale will also celebrate her title victory.
Renee Paquette is also scheduled to sit down with Adam Copeland, Christian Cage and The Young Bucks ahead of their AEW Tag Team Championship match at All In.
Rhino’s exact role remains under wraps, but bringing the “Man Beast” back in Detroit gives AEW an easy way to get a huge reaction from the hometown crowd.
