Rhea Ripley is finally breaking her silence on the black eye she suffered during her hard-hitting match with Giulia—and she’s not exactly selling it as a big deal.
This comes from Ripley’s interview with SHAK Wrestling, where she was asked directly about the visible damage that came out of their February 20 SmackDown bout. The moment had already drawn attention after Ripley showed off the bruise on Instagram, but now she’s offering her own take after seeing the footage back.
Ripley admitted that the shot looked brutal on camera, but made it clear that the reality didn’t match how it came across visually. She went on to explain that despite the appearance, the actual impact didn’t hit as hard as people might expect—crediting her own experience taking punishment in the ring.
“It looked so brutal, and watching it back I was like, ‘Oh, okay—well, that looked good at least.’ But actually feeling it—I don’t know if I’ve just been so acclimated to being hit in the face, but it wasn’t that bad. Like, yeah, it looked bad. It gave me a black eye, but I’ve got a hard face.”
Ripley even laughed it off during the interview, doubling down on the idea that the injury itself wasn’t her main concern in that moment. She also revealed that instinct played a big role in avoiding something worse, saying she adjusted just in time to protect herself from a more serious injury.
“The black eye was the least of my concerns there. Yeah, I turned my face just in time—I wasn’t going to break my nose again. I’m not going through that.”
The comments come weeks after Giulia addressed the same moment in a separate interview, where she framed the shot as a sign of respect and intensity rather than anything accidental. Now, with Ripley’s side of the story, the situation comes into clearer focus.
What looked like a brutal strike ended up being more about timing, experience, and ring awareness than long-term damage. And based on Ripley’s reaction, it’s clear she’s not losing sleep over it.
