Rey Mysterio getting launched by Kevin Nash into the side of a production truck is still one of the most insane WCW moments fans remember, and Rey just made the whole thing sound even crazier.
During a panel with Going Ringside, Mysterio was asked about the infamous “lawn dart” spot from WCW, where Nash picked him up and hurled him headfirst into the side of a truck. It looked brutal then, it still looks brutal now, and plenty of fans have wondered how that idea even came together. According to Rey, nobody had to twist his arm. He said he was the one who offered to do it.
“I actually offered to do that.”
Mysterio explained that at that stage of his career, he was young and not exactly worried about how his body would feel years later. Like a lot of wrestlers trying to make their mark, he was focused on creating a moment that people would remember.
“When you’re young, you don’t think about repercussions.”
Rey said the mindset back then was simple. If something could make the segment stand out, he was willing to take the risk and make it happen.
“You want to make things look good and you’re willing to give whatever it takes to make that segment… stand out.”
The wildest part is that Mysterio did not realize the spot would become one of those clips fans would still talk about decades later. At the time, it was just another crazy night in wrestling.
“At the time… I never thought it would still be talked about 25 years later.”
Looking back now, Rey knows the bump was not normal at all, even if it felt that way to him in the moment.
“To me it was normal. Obviously it wasn’t.”
The Kevin Nash lawn dart spot has become one of the most unforgettable moments from Rey Mysterio’s WCW run, and his new comments only add to the legend. He was not just willing to take the bump. He actually volunteered for it.
