Ryan Garcia had some serious WWE star power with him before his showdown with Conor Benn. Garcia brought out WWE and AAA Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio during the ceremonial weigh-in for the September 12 Zuffa Boxing event at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, and WWE President Nick Khan was also on stage for the moment.
Mysterio walked out beside Garcia holding up a Mexican flag as Garcia prepared for his final faceoff with Benn. Garcia also had an American flag draped around him, giving the weigh-in a full-blown spectacle before either fighter even stepped into the ring. The WWE President stood just behind Mysterio and Garcia during the weigh-in.
The actual fight has plenty riding on it too. Garcia enters with a 25-2 record and is defending the WBC Welterweight Championship against Benn, who comes in at 25-1. The bout headlines the September 12 Zuffa Boxing card from T-Mobile Arena.
Garcia weighed in at 145.5 pounds, while Benn came in at 146 pounds, putting both fighters under the 147-pound welterweight limit. Garcia made it clear during fight week that he expects to leave Las Vegas with the championship still around his waist.
“Tomorrow night is going to be a continuation of the reign that I have right now. I’m a world champion, and it’s going to stay that way tomorrow night.”
Garcia already made sure the ceremonial weigh-in felt bigger than a standard boxing faceoff by bringing Rey Mysterio into the mix, while Nick Khan’s appearance added another WWE connection to the night. Now all Garcia has to do is beat Benn when the bell rings.
