Rey Mysterio Fires Back at Dominik: Maybe I Never Should’ve Helped You Get Into Wrestling

Rey Mysterio just hit Dominik where it hurts — and this one had nothing to do with a 619. After Dom demanded an apology and Rey’s mask to finally settle their years-long family war, Rey fired back by saying maybe helping his son break into wrestling was a mistake in the first place.

During an interview with Fox News and OutKick, Rey reacted to Dominik’s demands and made it clear that his son may be getting a little too comfortable thinking he has the upper hand.

“That’s pretty deep for him to say that. At the end of the day, I believe I have much more tricks up my sleeve than he does.”

Then Rey went straight for the kill. Dominik wants to retire his father, take his name, force an apology out of him and walk away with one of the most famous masks in wrestling history. Rey’s response was basically: maybe none of this happens if I don’t open the door for you in the first place.

“If he thinks he’s going to step all over me, retire me, take my name and have me apologize to him for what apparently I have done, maybe I shouldn’t have helped him break into the business.”

That wasn’t just dad talking trash either. Rey immediately compared Dominik’s road into wrestling with his own, and he clearly doesn’t think the two journeys were remotely the same. Rey started wrestling at 14 and says he had to fight for every opportunity he got. Dominik, on the other hand, had Rey Mysterio standing right there when his career began.

“Maybe he should have grinded on his own and scratched and clawed just like I did at the age of 14 when I first broke into the business, which was really tough back then. Now, it’s much easier to get into the business. It’s not like before.”

And if Dominik thinks all this means Rey wants nothing to do with him in the ring again, think again. Rey actually wants another match — and he teased making it a whole lot more serious than Dom simply coming after his mask.

“I would love and wait to see that day come to fruition. I would love to step into the ring with Dom and put something on the line. Something that means much more than just a mask.”

That’s a hell of a tease considering Dominik already wants the mask and an apology. Rey didn’t reveal what could possibly mean more than the mask that has defined his entire career, but he clearly isn’t planning on giving Dom an easy retirement story. If Dominik wants to take everything from his father, Rey sounds ready to make him earn every damn piece of it.

What do you think Rey Mysterio could put on the line that means more than his mask, and should WWE run Rey vs. Dominik one more time? Let us know what you think in the comments.
