Bronson Reed isn’t brushing off that Oba Femi foot-swat on WWE RAW — he’s basically saying it happened because both guys think they should be the baddest man in the company. Reed says he was trying to assert dominance, Oba wasn’t having it, and fans are free to read into that however they want.
The moment went down on the September 7 episode of RAW after The Vision wrecked Oba Femi. Reed planted his foot on Oba while he was down, and Femi immediately slapped it away like he wasn’t about to let anybody pose over him. That one-second moment got people talking backstage. Ringside News covered the reaction inside WWE to Oba brushing Reed’s foot away, and it was later confirmed that the foot-swat wasn’t scripted.
Now Reed is saying exactly why he thinks it happened. While speaking to West Sport, Reed called himself the top dog and said Oba has the same mentality. His explanation for the foot-swat was pretty simple — neither guy wants to look beneath the other.
“Well, I think you’ve got to remember like I am the top dog. I’m always going to assert dominance and that’s what I would try to do and he’s very much the same. That’s why he obviously hit my foot off like so if people have speculation about these things then go for it. Speculate but of course like both of us want to be number one and we’re going to do whatever it takes to be number one.”
That doesn’t exactly kill the speculation. Reed is straight-up saying he was trying to big-dog Oba, and Oba responded by knocking his foot the hell off. And Reed says Oba was already in his sights before he ever came back.
During the six months Reed spent on the shelf, he watched RAW every week and saw Oba turn himself into one of WWE’s biggest players. Reed didn’t watch that rise and think, “good for him.” He watched it and decided that was the guy he needed to go after.
“While I was away for those six months, I made sure to watch Monday nights every every single week and I saw the rise of Ober Femi and how much he’s he’s become a big part of WWE as one of the the mainstays now and I think you should always be gunning for the top. So if that’s what has happened in these last six months, that’s who I’m targeting.”
Reed backed that up immediately when he returned at Sunday Night’s Main Event and went straight after Femi. Then came RAW, another beatdown, Reed putting his foot on Oba and Oba knocking it away. Now Reed is basically admitting what everybody could see — this is two monsters trying to establish who gets to stand on top.
That foot-swat wasn’t some throwaway moment to Reed. He says he wants to be number one, Oba wants the same thing, and neither guy looks interested in playing nice while they fight over that spot.
