Renee Paquette believes Mick Foley could become a massive asset for AEW far beyond his upcoming Double or Nothing appearance.
AEW President Tony Khan confirmed earlier this week that Foley will make his first-ever AEW appearance during the Double or Nothing Buy In show, where he’ll reunite with Paquette as her co-host in New York City.
Speaking on Busted Open, Paquette admitted Foley’s arrival completely caught her off guard.
“I had no idea that that was going to be happening.”
Paquette then explained why she thinks Foley fits naturally into AEW’s environment and culture.
“Mick is such a fan of professional wrestling, so to have him be a part of AEW now, it just feels like such a perfect mix.”
She also praised Foley’s passion for wrestling and said his presence around younger talent could become extremely important for the company moving forward.
“I’m also just pumped for our talent to be able to pick his brain.”
Paquette made it clear she believes Foley’s knowledge and experience could have a major impact backstage.
“To have someone like him around I think is going to be so valuable to so many people.”
Foley’s AEW debut comes months after the WWE Hall of Famer publicly distanced himself from WWE following the company’s continued relationship with Donald Trump. Foley later announced he would be cutting ties once his WWE Legends contract expired. Now the hardcore icon is stepping into AEW for the first time.
While nothing has been confirmed beyond the Double or Nothing Buy In appearance, Foley’s arrival instantly opens the door for plenty of possibilities inside AEW — whether that means mentoring talent backstage, appearing as an authority figure, joining commentary or even reuniting onscreen with Adam Copeland and Christian Cage.
AEW Double or Nothing takes place Sunday, May 24, from Queens, New York. With Renee Paquette already calling Foley a perfect fit for AEW, fans are now wondering whether this will end up becoming much more than just a one-night appearance.
