GUNTHER’s absence from SmackDown had plenty of fans asking questions. After being heavily involved in the Undisputed WWE Championship picture over the past several weeks, the Ring General was nowhere to be seen on Friday night. Now, he’s revealed exactly why.
The September 18 edition of SmackDown featured a chaotic main event as Sami Zayn successfully retained the Undisputed WWE Championship against Kevin Owens. The match broke down into complete chaos with Johnny Gargano, Candice LeRae and CM Punk all getting involved before Zayn ultimately put Owens away with a Helluva Kick.
Considering GUNTHER had recently challenged for the championship before Sami Zayn inserted himself into the title picture, many expected him to have some kind of presence on the show. Instead, WWE never featured him.
Fans didn’t have to wait long for an explanation. Shortly after SmackDown went off the air, GUNTHER took to Instagram and revealed that he wasn’t backstage because he was spending time in London with his wife, Jenny.
The post showed the former World Heavyweight Champion enjoying time away from WWE programming, explaining why he was absent despite his recent involvement in the championship scene.
“Spending time in London with the Queen.”
GUNTHER’s absence appears to be nothing more than a planned week away rather than anything storyline-related. With his recent focus on the Undisputed WWE Championship, it will be interesting to see when the Ring General returns and whether he immediately inserts himself back into the title picture.
