Harley Cameron is back in AEW after disappearing from television for more than a month, and now we finally know what she was apparently doing during that time. Her return came during the latest Collision tapings, but the real reason behind her absence wasn’t the injury angle AEW presented on television.
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez talked about Harley Cameron’s return and revealed that she had been away working on a reality show over the last month.
Dave Meltzer: “Skye Blue beat Harley Cameron. So Harley Cameron’s back. Didn’t she do a reality show?”
Bryan Alvarez: “She was doing a reality show, yes. She was doing some sort of show.”
That explains why Cameron suddenly disappeared after AEW had written her off indefinitely back in July. During the tapings for the August 29 edition of AEW Collision, Cameron finally returned to the ring and faced Skye Blue. It wasn’t exactly a triumphant return, though. Julia Hart interfered to help Blue pick up the win, so Cameron lost her first match back.
Cameron had been gone since the July 11 episode of Collision, where she challenged Hikaru Shida for the TBS Championship. Shida continued attacking her after the match until Queen Aminata ran down to intervene.
AEW followed up on the attack during the July 15 Dynamite and announced that Cameron would be out of action indefinitely, giving the company an easy storyline explanation for why she wouldn’t be around.
So Cameron’s “indefinite” absence didn’t last all that long. AEW used Shida’s attack to write her off television while she was away working on a reality show, and she’s now already back in the ring—even if her first night back didn’t go her way.
