Real Reason Behind Club WWE’s Delayed Launch

WWE has been teasing Club WWE for months, but fans still don’t have a launch date, pricing, or much of anything beyond a waitlist. Now there may finally be a reason for that.

During a WrestleVotes Q&A, JoeyVotes said Club WWE is still coming, but WWE apparently hit a small hiccup before getting it out the door. He didn’t know the exact issue, but he said something planned for the rollout either wasn’t ready or didn’t make it through testing.

“Yeah. Oliver, the only thing that I’ve heard was. There is. There was a small hiccup. That’s it. I don’t have any details. I got nothing else. I do know that something they had planned either wasn’t ready for rollout or didn’t make it in the test run or something along those lines. It’s still coming. They’re not going to pull the plug on this. This is not the John Cena Classic, or they’ve got no idea what’s going on. Club WWE is there. It’s set. So I’d imagine any day now. But I do think they wanted it out by now and for whatever reason, just couldn’t do it.”

So no, this does not sound like WWE is quietly killing Club WWE. If anything, it sounds like the company wanted it live by now and got caught on one piece of the rollout. That mystery piece may be where things get interesting. TC said he had heard WWE wanted to get into more interactive programming, though he made it clear he did not know if that was for everyone or only Club WWE members.

“One thing I heard in talking with people was that they wanted to get into more of an interactive kind of programming.”

That could mean WWE is looking at something bigger than just exclusive videos and member perks. TC floated the idea of fans giving real-time feedback, reacting to what they like on TV, or using upvotes and downvotes as part of the experience.

“Now, whether that was going to be available to everybody or available only to those in Club WWE I’m not sure. But I have to imagine with this Club WWE pricing and exclusivity, they probably would want that to go along with your subscription where you can give them information back in real time, whether you like something on TV, whether you want to give feedback. Yeah. Positive upvotes down votes, whatever it might. However they want to roll it out.”

TC did not say that caused the delay, but he did point out that John Cena has already talked about fan input and feedback with Club WWE. So if WWE is building something interactive behind the scenes, the infrastructure may simply not be ready yet.

“I don’t know if any of the hiccups they ever having has to do with any of that, but John Cena did allude to your feedback, your input when it comes to the John Cena Classic. So maybe some of that infrastructure they have. Not quite ready there. Yeah. Not quite set to be rolled out to everybody as a whole.”

That tracks with how Cena framed the project when WWE first announced Club WWE back in April. He didn’t pitch it as some basic subscription add-on. He said he was working with WWE on ideas that fans had never seen before.

“I will actively be trying my best to make WWE club an experience like no other. Currently working with WWE on some ‘never seen’ ideas to truly make WWE Club members THE ultimate insiders!”

For now, it looks like fans will have to wait a little longer. WWE still appears committed to launching Club WWE, but whatever the company has planned may be bigger than a simple membership program, and it sounds like they’re willing to hold it back until it’s ready.

Do you think WWE should wait until Club WWE is fully polished, or would you rather see it launch now and evolve over time? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comments.
