WrestleMania 42 took over Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. The show was packed with big moments, and they didn’t stop until the main event.

Cody Rhodes vs Randy Orton was the main event of WrestleMania 42’s first night. This was a big match for the World Heavyweight Championship, as the top name on the SmackDown brand was up for grabs. Jelly Roll also got involved in Randy Orton’s heel turn, but things were really kicked up a notch when we all found out who Orton was on the phone with for weeks.

Things were shaken up in a big way when Pat McAfee showed up in Saint Louis to kick Cody in the balls and trash the current state of pro wrestling and WWE ticket sales. He was also in Randy Orton’s corner for Mania after signing a waiver during SmackDown this week.

Alicia Taylor tried to give this match a big fight feel with her introductions, but Pat McAfee took the mic and did Randy Orton’s intro. Then Alicia got to introduce Cody Rhodes.

Before the match even got started, Pat McAfee hit Cody with the microphone. Then Cody hit a Crossroads on McAfee before he cleaned off the announce table. Jelly Roll showed up, and he hit a splash through the table that destroyed it. Then Jelly Roll told Cody to give fans the one-on-one match that they came to see.

The bell didn’t ring as officials tended to Pat McAfee, and they loaded him onto a stretcher. Fans chanted “you deserve it” at Pat as the match finally got started.

This match was a brutal encounter, with Randy Orton getting busted open in the process. Randy wanted his 15th World Title reign to start, but Cody Rhodes didn’t let up at all. Cody hit Randy’s draping DDT on the Viper himself, and the match continued.

Cody Rhodes mocked Randy Orton as he got up, and then the Apex Predator hit a Cross Roads for another near fall. Cody hit an RKO next for a near fall. Cody was booed as he stalked Orton, and then Randy nailed an RKO of his own for a near fall. After a bit more in the match, Cody poked Randy in the eyes, and then Orton accidentally hit the referee with an RKO to take him out. Cody Rhodes blocked a low blow from Randy to hit one for himself.

Then Cody Rhodes went for a Cody Cutter, but Randy Orton caught him in an RKO. Pat McAfee ran down in a referee shirt, and he got in, but Cody kicked out at two. Then Randy hit McAfee with an RKO. Cody nailed Randy with a Cross Roads, and he got the pinfall to retain the title at WrestleMania 42.

After the match, Randy Orton hit Cody Rhodes with an RKO and a punt to the head. WrestleMania 42 ended with Orton holding the World Heavyweight Championship as he stood over Cody Rhodes. We will have to see what’s next for those two.
