R-Truth shocked many WWE fans when he recently debuted a new look, ending an era that had become synonymous with one of the company’s most recognizable personalities.

During an appearance on the Six Feet Under podcast with The Undertaker and Michelle McCool, Truth explained that the decision wasn’t made overnight. In fact, he had already been considering the change before finally discussing it with WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H. Truth revealed that fan messages played a role in helping him realize it might be time to move on from his trademark hairstyle. A second message hit even harder.

“One girl said, ‘Hey boo boo. You got three maybe four dreads joined together and they’re holding strong.’ She said, ‘We gonna love you, we love you. But it’s time to let it go.'”

“‘Hey, unc. Dog, we gonna always root for you. But it’s time to let ’em go.’ That one stung. Oof.”

With his major WWE comeback already underway, Truth felt the timing was right to make a significant change. He approached Triple H about cutting his hair and explained why he wanted a fresh start.

“So, with everything happening and I just had the big comeback. And I was already talking about it and I asked Hunter. I said, ‘Hey, can I cut my hair?’ He’s like, ‘Ugh, why?’ I said, ‘Man, I wanna cut my hair. I wanted to check out, see. I said, it’s thinning out, Hunter. I want a new look.'”

Triple H ultimately gave him the green light. Truth described the haircut as much more than a cosmetic change. For him, it represented the start of a new chapter in his life and career.

“He’s said, ‘All right, let’s figure out when.’ I said now is a good time, perfect time. I can, bah, it’s a new me. You know, and. He’s like, ‘All right. If you want to do it tonight, do it tonight.'”

“And so it was just me, it was time. I felt it was the end of a new beginning. It gave me so much more mileage. I feel like I reinvented myself with it. And I’ve always been that one that, we live, we create, we adapt, we evolve. And we have to go on with the time. I wasn’t gonna hold unto it forever.”

The WWE veteran has reinvented himself multiple times throughout his career, and he believes this latest transformation is simply another step in that evolution. While fans may miss the familiar look, Truth appears fully confident that the change was the right move.
