Nikki Bella might still make WrestleMania 42—but WWE is now actively preparing for the possibility that she won’t, as they have backup plans.

That’s the latest news coming out of a WrestleVotes Q&A session on April 14, where the focus shifted from Nikki’s recovery to what WWE could do if she doesn’t get medically cleared in time.

With just days to go before WrestleMania 42, Nikki’s status remains up in the air following the ankle injury she suffered on the March 27 episode of SmackDown. While she’s been rehabbing and pushing to return, the latest word is that WWE isn’t taking any chances behind the scenes. During the Q&A, WrestleVotes was asked directly about potential backup plans—and made it clear that alternatives are already being discussed.

“If Nikki Bella isn’t cleared, they’ll throw another team in there—whether that be The Kabuki Warriors or they can go with Roxanne and Raquel very easily. I know there’s hope that The Bella Twins make it.”

That shows WWE is keeping multiple options ready for the planned four-way Women’s Tag Team Championship match scheduled for night one on April 18. As it stands, the bout is set to feature The Bella Twins, Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair, Bayley and Lyra Valkyria, along with The Irresistible Forces.

If Nikki can’t compete, WWE could pivot quickly by inserting a replacement team like The Kabuki Warriors or the Judgment Day’s Roxanne Perez and Raquel Rodriguez—both of whom could slot into the match without disrupting the structure too much.

Despite that, there’s still internal hope that Nikki will be cleared in time to team with Brie Bella as originally planned. But with the clock ticking, WWE appears ready to make a last-minute call depending on medical clearance. At this point, everything hinges on Nikki’s recovery over the next few days—and whether doctors give her the green light before WrestleMania 42 goes live.

Do you think WWE should stick with Nikki Bella if she’s cleared last minute, or go with a backup team to avoid risks at WrestleMania 42? Let us know your thoughts and leave your feedback.
