Pete Dunne heard people starting to talk like his full-time wrestling days might be winding down, and he killed that idea almost immediately. The former WWE United Kingdom Champion made it clear on September 14 that doing more work behind the scenes does not mean he’s getting ready to disappear from the ring.
The whole thing started after Fightful revealed that Dunne produced the TripleManía 34 main event between Dominik Mysterio and El Grande Americano. Sean Ross Sapp then reposted the news and wrote, “Pete Dunne seems to be transitioning well.” Dunne saw that and fired right back with a pretty simple message: “Transitioning? I’m far from done.”
That’s about as subtle as a punch in the mouth. Dunne has been taking on more producer work while also continuing to wrestle, including his masked role as Rayo Americano in AAA, so it wasn’t hard to see why people might start wondering if he was slowly moving into a full-time backstage job.
Dunne clearly isn’t buying that idea. For now, it looks like he wants both jobs. He can help put matches together behind the curtain and still beat the hell out of people once the bell rings, and he sounds pretty annoyed that anybody might think one role is replacing the other.
So no, Pete Dunne isn’t quietly heading toward retirement because he produced a major match. If his response is anything to go by, the Bruiserweight still thinks he’s got plenty left to do in the ring.
