The mystery behind WWE’s “Cruz Montana” trademark appears to be over, and Mike Santana is the man behind the name.

In a new social media video, Santana addressed his surprise appearance on NXT and pointed out that he got fans talking without saying a single word. That silence is ending on the next episode. Santana confirmed that he will speak on NXT under the Cruz Montana name, making it clear that WWE has given him a new identity.

“For the first time, you get to hear what Cruz Montana has to say.”

Cruz Montana appeared after Tony D’Angelo successfully defended the NXT Championship against Naraku. He confronted D’Angelo following the match but was not identified as Mike Santana during the broadcast.

That stood out because Santana has appeared on NXT television before under his established name while representing TNA as its World Champion. WWE choosing not to acknowledge that identity immediately raised questions about whether a full character change was underway.

WWE filed to trademark “Cruz Montana” on July 24, 2026. The application covers professional wrestling exhibitions, live performances, television appearances, online content, fan clubs and other entertainment services.

The timing now makes perfect sense. WWE filed the name, Santana appeared without being identified, and he has now confirmed that Cruz Montana will speak on NXT.
