Paul Wight has been talking about getting back in the ring, and now he says fans may see him do something on AEW Dynamite tonight.
While speaking to Good Day Live, Wight promoted the July 8 episode of Dynamite and ran through the card before slipping in the real tease. He said he will be in the ring for something, but refused to say what it is.
“We have MJF, who is a very popular talent. He was in an Adam Sandler movie. He’s a bad guy. Not many people like him. He’s a little bit mouthy. Taking on Kenny Omega for the AEW World Championship. We’ve got another local. Chris Jericho will be competing. We’ve got (Konosuke) Takeshita versus Kyle Fletcher. So there’s a lot of great AEW talent. So good night of wrestling. Good night of entertainment. And it’s also cost effective. It’s where you get more bang for your buck. So you’re going to be able on TV if you get there. Great live event, and also I’m going to be in the ring doing something. I can’t tell you what, because it’s a big secret. But if you come, you will see me maybe slap some people around.”
That last line is what makes this interesting. Wight did not say he is wrestling, but he also did not make it sound like he is just waving to the crowd and heading to the back. When a former world champion says he may “slap some people around,” fans are obviously going to wonder if AEW has something physical planned for him.
The timing helps that speculation too. Wight recently showed off a major body transformation on Instagram, looking leaner and stronger while making it clear he has been pushing himself hard after 11 surgeries.
AEW Dynamite already has a big lineup, with MJF defending the AEW World Championship against Kenny Omega, Chris Jericho in action, and Konosuke Takeshita facing Kyle Fletcher. Wight being involved gives the show another question mark heading in.
Paul Wight may not be promising a full match, but he is teasing something inside the ring, and that is enough to get people watching. After months of comeback talk and a gym photo that showed real progress, tonight could be the first sign of what AEW actually has planned for him.
