Paige Collett is fed up with people treating her like some kind of drug addict just because she smokes weed. The JCW wrestler says marijuana is the reason she’s still able to chase her wrestling dreams, and she’s got a message for anyone judging her without knowing what she’s been through.
Collett took to Twitter on October 18 and went off on people who see her smoking and immediately assume she’s some kind of party girl. She says the reality couldn’t be further from the truth. She’s battling a chronic illness, and medical marijuana has been a lifesaver.
“People see me smoking and judge me & typecast me! I’m a strong advocate for medical marijuana. It has saved my life and it lets me continue to pursue my wrestling dream.”
And she’s not stopping there. Collett says she’s made the decision to stay away from ketamine infusions and opioids, but people still lump her in with others who use recreational drugs simply because they’ve seen her smoking around them.
“Because I’m brave enough to refuse ketamine infusions and opioids…I then have strangers see me smoke with other people and these other people do other drugs and they immediately think oh she’s a partier when in reality I’m a chronically ill woman that’s fighting for my life.”
“We need to end the stigma surrounding marijuana! 💚✅‼️”
And if you know anything about what Collett has been through, you can probably understand why she’s so fired up. The wrestler has been battling Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, or CRPS, a condition that causes severe chronic pain. As Ringside News previously covered, Collett says a bump during wrestling training under WWE Hall of Famer Rikishi left her disabled and eventually relying on a wheelchair.
We’re talking about someone who spent years dealing with doctors, excruciating pain and the possibility that she might never wrestle again. She eventually fought her way back, even having to relearn how to walk.
And the pain doesn’t just show up when she’s wrestling. Collett has previously opened up about how her condition affects physical intimacy, saying even something most people wouldn’t think twice about can leave her recovering for days.
So when strangers see Collett smoking marijuana and decide she’s just out partying, she’s not exactly going to sit there and take it. As far as she’s concerned, weed has helped keep her wrestling career alive while she’s dealing with a condition that once took away her ability to walk.
Collett has already been through hell trying to get her life and wrestling career back. Now she’s making it clear that she’s not about to let people who don’t know her medical history tell her how to deal with the pain. She’s still fighting to live her dream, and she’d rather people understand her situation before passing judgment.
What do you think about Paige Collett firing back at people who judge her for using medical marijuana? Should people mind their own business when it comes to someone else’s medical treatment, or is there more to the conversation? Sound off in the comments below.
