Nyla Rose isn’t blaming Tony Khan for her lack of AEW television time.
During an appearance on Jasmin St. Claire’s Off the Rails podcast, the former AEW Women’s World Champion was directly asked why she isn’t being used on television more often, and St. Claire even joked about beating up Khan over it. Rose immediately shut down the idea that Khan is personally keeping her off television. She said her own relationship and conversations with the AEW president have left her feeling like whatever is going on, it isn’t coming directly from him.
“No. No. Don’t beat up Tony Khan. Or, or just distract him and, you know, we’ll, we’ll tag team him a little bit. No. Um, no. I, I genuinely don’t think it’s him. I genuinely, genuinely don’t think it’s him. You know how they say trust your gut. And this isn’t me just like glazing him because he’s my boss or anything like that. It’s just, um, there may be some things I can’t talk about or like things I can only speculate on, but like in my heart of hearts, just the relationship that we have and like the conversations that we have, I don’t think it’s him, you know?”
That part about there being things she “can’t talk about” certainly leaves some unanswered questions. Rose didn’t spell out who or what she believes is responsible for her reduced television presence, but she made it clear she isn’t putting the blame on Khan. Rose then explained that her opinion isn’t simply based on Khan being nice to her. She described him as someone who is willing to tell talent no to their face instead of feeding them whatever answer they want to hear.
“And not even the fact that he’s just nice. He’s genuine, right? Like he’s, he’s not, he’s not really one to like tell you what you want to hear, you know? He’s, he’ll, he’ll, if it’s what doesn’t need to be or what can’t be, he’ll tell you. He absolutely will be like, ‘No, that’s not going to happen.’ Like there’s been a lot of times I’m in the office and I’m like, ‘Hey, Tony, let’s do this.’ He’s like, ‘No, we’re not doing that. We’re just no.’ And I’m like, ‘Okay, you got it, boss.’”
That makes Rose’s comments about her television absence even more interesting. She clearly believes Khan would tell her directly if he simply didn’t want to use her, yet she also stopped short of explaining exactly what she thinks has kept her from being featured more regularly.
Whatever is keeping Nyla Rose from getting more AEW television time, she isn’t pointing the finger at Tony Khan. Her comments also leave a pretty big mystery hanging over the situation, because Rose clearly believes there is more to the story than fans are seeing.
