Hiromu Takahashi making his way to WWE might not be some random rumor after all, because people in the company have been expecting him to join the promotion for a long time.
According to Fightful Select, people in WWE and NXT have long expected that Takahashi would eventually come to the company. That does not mean a deal is confirmed, but it does show his name has apparently been on WWE’s radar for a while.
“People in WWE/NXT have long expected that Hiromu Takahashi will eventually come to the company.”
This update comes after Hiromu Takahashi officially left NJPW earlier this year, ending a long run as one of New Japan’s top junior heavyweight stars.
“After careful consideration and discussions with NJPW management, Hiromu Takahashi, who has been a long standing member of the NJPW roster will leave New Japan Pro-Wrestling.”
Now here’s where the Bakusai part comes in. WWE filed to trademark “Bakusai” on June 26 for wrestling entertainment services, and while WWE has not revealed who or what the name is for, fans have already started connecting it to Takahashi because of his NJPW exit.
“Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibitions and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer rendered live and through broadcast media including television and radio, and via the internet or commercial online service; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment via an online community portal; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment information; fan club services, namely, organizing sporting events in the field of wrestling for wrestling fan club members; organizing social entertainment events for entertainment purposes for wrestling fan club members; providing online newsletters in the fields of sports entertainment; online journals, namely blogs, in the field of sports entertainment.”
There is also a recent example that makes people look twice. EVIL left NJPW and later showed up in NXT under the new name Naraku, so there is the question of whether Takahashi could be next in line for a WWE rebrand.
For now, nothing is official. Takahashi has not debuted, WWE has not confirmed Bakusai’s identity, and this report only says people in WWE and NXT have long expected him to eventually arrive. Still, with the trademark filing now out there, the timing is definitely going to keep fans talking.
