Nikki Bella had a full Italy-themed idea ready for the WWE Clash in Italy Premium Live Event, but it never made it to the screen.
While speaking on The Nikki & Brie Show, Nikki revealed that she pitched WWE a concept called “Ciao Bella” for the international Premium Live Event. The idea would have featured Nikki in comedic, cinematic segments across Italy with different WWE Superstars. Nikki said she originally thought she would be part of Clash in Italy in a non-wrestling role and wanted to create something fun for the pre-show or social media.
“I at first thought I was going to be at Clash in Italy, not obviously performing, but Reno’s — I pitched this incredible idea called Ciao Bella. I was like, hey guys, I would love to do this. Whether it’s pre-show, like when we used to do those fun promo commercial things for PLE, or just make it social.”
She explained that the title came from the Bella name and her Italian roots, with the segments built around her interacting with WWE talent in Italy. Her pitch included several different scenes, including Aperol Spritz drinks with Brie, Paige, and the tag team champions, plus a gondola ride with GUNTHER.
“I had where I titled it Ciao Bella ’cause obviously Bella and being in Italy and Brie and I have Italian, but where I’d have these different moments with WWE superstars. So like there would be a moment where I’m on like the Italian scooter with Danhausen and his skirt and his scarf is like flying in my face.
And then it cuts to like having a moment with Brie and Paige and having Aperol Spritz with the tag team champions. And then I’d be on a gondola ride with Gunther and like he’s just staring straight being Gunther. And I’m like looking around like totally Emily in Paris. Like what’s happening. This one gave me the idea of like Emily in Rome, like me totally being like an Emily with WWE superstars.”
Nikki also imagined another WWE Superstar playing the gondolier, possibly someone who had issues with GUNTHER. She then described a scene with Oba Femi where Judgment Day would ruin their gelato moment.
“And then the gondolier is like, you know, another WWE superstar that’s either giving me the looks or he’s someone that, you know, hates Gunther. And then I have this other moment where Oba and I are getting gelato and trying to attempt a selfie with him and obviously the height different. But then Judgement Day comes and slaps our gelato out of our hands. How dare they, how dare they?”
The former Divas Champion said she had several Italy-themed ideas ready because Clash in Italy was airing internationally on Netflix, and she thought the concept would fit the event perfectly.
“And I had all these fun little segment ideas with all these WWE superstars that were very Italian and fun and gave you the Emily in Paris vibes because obviously you’ll watch Clash in Italy. It’s Netflix international. So I thought, oh my gosh, this would be all so fun.”
Nikki said WWE initially liked the pitch and discussed it with her, but the project eventually fell through. She also had a running joke planned where people in Italy would say “Ciao Bella,” and Nikki would think it was because she was famous, not because “bella” is commonly used in Italian.
“And they showed interest, like I was going back with the team and they really liked the idea. Then I’m walking down the street and they keep going Ciao Bella, Ciao Bella, ’cause they do that in Italy. And then I take a pause and I go, ‘Oh my God, I’m like so famous here.’ But obviously it’s because they call everyone Bella, but I think it’s oh because I’m Nikki Bella. So it was cute and they all loved it but then fell through so which is too bad.”
Nikki Bella even had a romantic spaghetti dinner idea involving Penta, mask and all: “And I had a spaghetti dinner with Penta. It was romantic spaghetti dinner with Penta with his mask.”
The pitch never came together, but Nikki’s description makes it clear she had a full creative vision for Clash in Italy. With WWE continuing to run major international shows, ideas like “Ciao Bella” could still fit a future overseas event if the company decides to revisit the concept.
