Nick Aldis isn’t making any promises about wrestling again, but he’s also not saying SummerSlam was the last time fans will see him in a WWE ring.
After stepping back into a WWE ring against GUNTHER at SummerSlam, the SmackDown General Manager was asked the question plenty of fans have been wondering: was that simply a one-night return, or could there be more matches in his future?
Aldis didn’t hesitate to leave the door open. Speaking on WWE Now, Aldis explained that he entered the SummerSlam opportunity without any expectations, and he’s approaching everything the exact same way now that it’s over.
“I don’t know. I’ve said from the beginning, I came in with no expectations. I come out with none, so…”
When Roberts pointed out that nobody really knows what comes next, Aldis agreed: “You know, if it’s there, it’s there. Yeah. Yeah.” That led to the obvious follow-up. After pushing GUNTHER to his limit at SummerSlam, does Aldis believe he still has more left in the tank? His answer was short—but it was enough.
“Sure. In the right circumstances? Yeah.”
Those comments come after Aldis put his authority on the line against GUNTHER at SummerSlam. Before the match, he stepped down as SmackDown General Manager in order to make the bout official. After the event, Triple H praised Aldis for honoring his word before tearing up his resignation letter and immediately reinstating him as SmackDown’s General Manager.
For now, Aldis remains focused on his role as SmackDown General Manager. But if the right opportunity presents itself, it doesn’t sound like SummerSlam will be the last time fans see him competing inside a WWE ring.
