Nick Aldis may have lost to GUNTHER at SummerSlam, but he didn’t lose his job.
After the show went off the air, Aldis appeared backstage with Triple H during the SummerSlam post-show and addressed the decision he made before stepping into the ring.
Aldis explained that he had to give up his position as SmackDown General Manager in order to prove himself against GUNTHER. He then handed Triple H his formal letter of resignation and said it had been an honor to serve WWE.
Triple H praised Aldis for keeping his word and settling the issue with GUNTHER inside the ring. He made it clear that the result did not change the respect Aldis earned by standing up for himself and seeing the fight through. Then Triple H made the decision official. Instead of accepting the resignation, he tore the letter up and reinstated Aldis as SmackDown General Manager.
The move ends any uncertainty about Aldis’ status after SummerSlam. He stepped away from his authority role to face GUNTHER, but WWE wasted no time putting him back in charge once the match was over.
Aldis now returns to SmackDown with even more credibility than before. He proved he could still compete at a high level, pushed GUNTHER to the limit and then received a public vote of confidence from Triple H.
SummerSlam did not mark the end of Nick Aldis’ run as SmackDown General Manager. It gave him a major in-ring moment and sent him right back to the position he had been holding before the match.
